Clinical Lung Cancer Publishes Perspective on Future Treatment Algorithms for Advanced Non–Small-Cell Lung Cancer

OCTOBER 27, 2009

Clinical Lung Cancer Future Treatment Algorithms

The November 2009 issue of Clinical Lung Cancer features a perspective article that addresses the recent advances in non–small-cell lung cancer and the impact this research could have on treatment algorithms as soon as 2012.

“Although there remains considerable debate about when currently available predictive biomarker testing for chemotherapy will cross the line between research and standard of care, in our opinion, it is quite likely that, by 2012, practicing oncologists will be employing a decision-making algorithm that is molecular-based, advances will benefit all stakeholders in the oncology portion of the current healthcare debate. After all, establishing predictive biomarkers for cancer therapy, including new and costly agents will, by default, reduce wholesale use, limiting prescription to those most likely to benefit—a paradigm of cost-effectiveness,” says Dr. David R. Gandara, Editor-in-Chief of Clinical Lung Cancer and one of the authors of this perspective article.

Clinical Lung Cancer is a peer-reviewed bimonthly journal composed of original articles describing various aspects of clinical and translational research of lung cancer. The journal includes a variety of content such as comprehensive reviews and original studies. Clinical Lung Cancer is devoted to articles on detection, diagnosis, prevention, and treatment of patients with lung cancer, with an emphasis on recent scientific developments. Specific areas of interest include clinical research and mechanistic approaches; drug sensitivity and resistance; gene and antisense therapy; pathology, markers, and prognostic indicators; chemoprevention strategies; multimodality therapy; and integration of various approaches.
